potato lollipop is a very quick and yummy snack for kids. It is also an ideal party snack which can be made in a jiffy.

It is a quick and easy snack you can prepare within 30 minutes, provided you have boiled potatoes at hand. It makes an excellent evening snack, especially during the rainy season. Kids and adults will love these tasty lollipops.

Potato lollipops are very easy to make. Just mix all the ingredients together, shape them like a ball, dip them in flour and water mixture, gently roll them in bread crumbs and deep fry them till they are golden brown and crisp.

Serve these delicious hot and crispy potato balls with tomato ketchup or mayonnaise. It can be prepared as a kids party appetizer too.

for potato balls:

  • 2-3 or 1½ cup boiled potato
  • ¼ cup finely chopped onions
  • 2-3 tbsp finely chopped coriander leaves
  • 2 chopped green chilli
  • ¼ tsp red chilli powder
  • 1 tsp chaat masala
  • 1 tsp Lemon juice
  • Salt to taste

extra ingredients :

  • 2 tbsp all purpose flour maida
  • 1 tsp cornstarch
  • ½ cup bread crumbs
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 tsp chilli flakes
  • Oil for deep frying

Instructions

preparing the potato balls :

  • Collect all the required ingredients.
  • Take the grated or mashed potatoes in a mixing bowl,
  • Now add finely chopped onion, green chilli, and coriander leaves.
  • Then add salt, red chilli powder, chaat masala and lemon juice.
  • Mix well to form a firm dough.
  • Grease palms with oil and take the potato mixture in your hands.
  • Make small balls of potato mixture, balls shouldn’t be too small or too large.
  • Make all the potato lollipops and place these on a plate. Make smooth and crack free balls.
  • Potato balls are ready. Keep it aside.
  • Take a plate and add maida, cornflour and salt. Make slurry by mixing it well.
  • The batter should not be too runny not too thick. It should be of the right consistency to coat the lollipops.
  • Now take another plate and add breadcrumbs, chilly flakes, and italian seasoning.
  • Mix well and keep it aside.

making the potato lollipop :

  • Assemble potato balls, maida solution and breadcrumbs mix.
  • Take one potato ball and dip it in the maida slurry.
  • Coat the balls properly from all the sides.
  • Once coated, roll it in the bread crumb mix.
  • Follow the process for the remaining balls.
  • Place a frying pan and pour the oil to fry the lollipop. Heat the oil medium hot.
  • Now add the potato balls one by one into the pan and fry them on low medium flame.
  • Deep-fry for two to three minutes on low medium heat, or until crisp and golden brown, turning occasionally.
  • Drain these lollipops onto a paper tissue.
  • Repeat the process for all balls.
  • Arrange the fried balls on a serving plate and insert toothpicks into each balls.
  • Serve these lip-smacking and delicious hot and crispy potato balls with tomato ketchup or mayonnaise.

Notes

  • Boil potatoes and cool them at room temperature before making lollipops.
  •  Don’t mash them with hands, grate them.
  • Make your own fresh bread crumbs. Just break bread in small pieces and grind them in the grinder.
  • Deep fry them at low-medium heat.
  • Fry one potato ball first. If it cracks open mix some more bread crumbs and fries them again.
  • Add few potato balls at a time while frying.
  • You can add dry mango powder instead of chaat masala.
